Under direction, to perform difficult electrical engineering design, drafting, and inspection work involved in the design and construction of complete State hospitals and institutions, office buildings, and industrial plants; and to do other related work.
Associate Electrical Engineer
Designs and prepares the more difficult plans, specifications, and estimates for all types and classes of electrical work, such as building illumination, outdoor and indoor flood lighting, power installations, complicated electric control systems, x-ray equipment, communication and electronic systems; prepares or reviews material lists and requisitions; makes field surveys and recommendations on existing electrical installations and proposed projects; inspects and tests electrical installations and proposed projects; inspects and tests electrical apparatus and installations; as required, directs and reviews the work of Electrical Engineers; checks contractors' drawings and shop drawings submitted for consideration; dictates correspondence and prepares reports.
This classification is eligible for the following pay:
$9,430 - $11,797 Base Salary (paid every month)
In addition to the above pay items, employees are eligible for medical benefits (health, dental, vision) and may be eligible for other pay differentials.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Three years of professional electrical engineering experience, at least two years of which shall have been in design and inspection work in at least two of the following fields: building illumination, outdoor and indoor flood lighting, power installations, communication systems or other complicated electric control systems, and comparable in responsibility to that of an Electrical Engineer, Range B, in the California state service. and Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with major work in electrical engineering. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.).
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge:
Electrical theory and practice and modern electrical equipment and apparatus; illumination design and application; various codes, safety orders, and regulations governing electrical work; specification writing, estimating and material listing; circuit design, power, light, signal and control distribution systems, overhead and underground, together with power distribution centers and substations; principles of effective supervision.
Ability to:
Do design work and prepare neat and accurate electrical plans and specifications; plan and direct the work of others; establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the work; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; dictate correspondence and prepare reports.
